Cave
by Erin McCarthy
A gash in the earth, elemental: water, stone and sand surround and support vacant --but not empty-- space that expands as we travel deeper.
Space with potential, space that protects, enclosed and preserving, space for hiding.
Water drips down, droplet by droplet, leaving microscopic bits of particles that together form structures, creamy and figurative.
In a rush?
The cave has its own pace -- it measures years passed by fractions of inches, not feet.
